Membership - Eligibility

Entrance to membership of the Faculty of Decoration is controlled by the acquisition of formal qualifications or by submitted evidence of experience gained in a specific area of decorative work over a prescribed number of years. Designatory letters are awarded to individuals to denote their institute status.

1. Applicants will be admitted to FELLOW class (FFD.)

if they;

1.1 hold a qualification approved by the Council or are corporate members of certain professional institutes,

or,

1.2 hold a Certificate in Education and are teaching on a course which leads to a qualification which is eligible for Faculty membership,

or,

1.3 are a mature person engaged in some aspect of activity within the field of decoration and have been in a position of responsibility for decision making for a minimum of five years and can satisfy the Council, by submitted evidence, of their personal standard of attainment and that produced and maintained under their control,or,

1.4 have been an Associate member of the Faculty for the requisite number of years,


or,

1.5 have the personal endorsement of two Fellows of the Faculty of Decoration.

2. Applicants will be admitted to ASSOCIATE class (AFD)

            If they,
2.1       hold a National Vocational Qualification Senior Craft Level 4 or NVQ at Level 3
            with evidence of further advanced decorative skills,
            Or,
2.2       hold a qualification pertaining to a decorative craft, with evidence of 
            personal attainment by submission of a portfolio of work samples,
            and
2.3       are over the age of 19 years.

4. Applicants are considered for registration as STUDENT MEMBERS

if they are;

3.1 studying for a qualification in a decorative subject, (see Certificate in Decorative Painting)

and,

3.2 are over the age of sixteen years.

In exceptional circumstances the Council may waive some or all of the above criteria in all classes and substitute others for consideration. Where sight is required of certificates and diplomas etc., photo copies will usually be acceptable.
