Certificate in Decorative Painting

Although certification exists in the basic skills associated with painting and decorating i.e. the application of surface coatings, there is little, or none, in the way of formal qualification of the higher skills required of the professional decorative painter. The award of this

Certificate in Decorative Painting is aimed at those persons making a career in the field of decoration who wish to develop their skills in this area of expertise and obtain recognition of their attainment.

There are various ways these decorative skills are learned, and in which a high standard of skill is accomplished, but with little or no recognition of this achievement. The candidate for the award may have attained this standard by;

* a formal apprenticeship in a firm carrying out such work,

or,
* transferring fine art training into decorative art as a career move,

or,
attending classes at a college or training centre, on a part time basis,

or,
* attendance on a course where such skills were taught as supplementary subjects,

or
* tuition at master classes,

or,
* just dogged determination to become proficient in these subjects.

This is by no means a definitive list. The Certificate in Decorative Painting can be awarded whatever the route taken to become proficient in these skills, and to any individual who can meet the criteria for the award.
